This suite has a number of little movements that depict my neighborhood park near where I grew up in El Cerrito, California. Premiered at El Cerrito High School with Kyra Wolf, 'cello There was a chamber music night at El Cerrito High school when I was a student there. I wrote this work and premiered it for that evening. I had the pleasure of working with cellist Kyra Wolf, who was a student at Berkeley High school. At the time I met Kyra, not through youth orchestras, but through my relationship with Rachel and Ken Durling. I was in youth orchestras with Rachel and performed a number of horn and organ recitals with Ken Durling in the late 1980's, as well as soloing with Ken's Oakland Chamber Orchestra in a Mozart horn concerto.
My friend Sonja Kaufman wrote saying "I was in that concert too!! I remember it well. I played the Handel duet for two celli. I believe the concert was the culmination of the chamber music class that was offered at that time...I remember taking orchestra, chamber music and ECHS even had an AP music theory class!!" Thanks Sonja |
