Program Notes:

Quartet for four horns, Opus 136 in 4 movements is the first recording of a composition using my technique of organizing the triads within a scale in order from most simple to most complex in the overtone series. A technique that, because I am using triads, sounds quite traditional.

The opus 88a series is a set of long tone studies on the I ching scales. Listen to the beats!
Opus 88d is a composition using a written out echo for solo horn. There is a pattern or melody in which each note that happens, happens four times each time softer, so an overlapping of similar tones occurs. Op88d
Opus 77d  “Returning to the Source” refers to the use of I Ching scale #48 the well or source. In a through composed composition with some multiphonics.
Richard Burdick works virtually full-time as a horn player throughout Northern California, is a prolific writer of music, and sole proprietor of I Ching Music                         (http://www.i-ching-music.com).

Mr. Burdick is now recording his next new age / space music compact disk: a piece with multi track horn of: horn chords, drones, flying angels and wind chimes his eighth CD. Also is in the process is more authentic practice recordings of the music of Dauprat, a contemporary of Beethoven.  His CD’s run the gamut from authentic practice natural horn, avant-guarde, to meditation music. All his recordings so far are premiere recordings.
Mr. Burdick performs frequently as a soloist, recently having soloed in Berkeley, Chico, Davis, Georgetown, Lodi, Napa, Quincy, Sacramento, Sonora, Stockton, and at St. Mary's in San Francisco. He is currently a member of Napa and North State Symphonies, and Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra and lots more. Richard performed full-time with Sacramento Symphony from 1990 until its bankruptcy in 1996.
As a composer Richard is currently working on a large work for horn solo with string orchestra for a future CD release.
