The music of J. D. Artot is very well written. He wrote nice melodies, interweaving parts and just wonderful normal sounding music. These trios seem like they are written for a large ensemble, but it's only three players AND the parts are quite playable. Often music like this works in theory, but is too taxing for the player for lve performance. This music is good for live performance!
Jean Désiré Montagney Artôt was born in Belgium on September 23, 1803. He is the son of the First Horn of the Brussels Opera. He learned singing with Maurice Montagney. He was also a pupil of his father. In 1843, he himself became professor of horn at the Brussels Conservatory. In 1849, he was First Horn at the private chapel of the King of Belgium. He wrote 24 studies for horn, Fantasies and Quartets for horns and piston cornets. Then he died in 1887.
