Opus 41
Andante “Victoria"
for
horn and organ
February 1988
Written for and premiered with Ken Durling
Premiere 11/6/88 Trinity Chamber Concerts in Berkeley California
This work was written when I went to Victoria, B.C.
I am quite sure It was February 1988 when I went to audition in Victoria, B.C.. I was runner up for the first horn job and was told that, because I qualified for the job, they could call me up and I would have to audition again; I am still waiting for that call. I find it significant that I eventually (fall of 2003) moved to Canada for a full-time first horn job.
This audition, and this composition to me signifies the end of my period of life where I consumed alcohol. This is the trip that helped me decide to no longer drink; I have not had a drink since late Winter of 1988.
